Session Start: Tue May 25 16:39:42 2004
Session Ident: #TGM
[16:39] *** Now talking in #TGM
[16:39] <effrenatus> Hello. I'll be back in a bit.
[16:40] <Zouron> hey eff
[16:47] <effrenatus[AFK]> I should be cleaning up MMagic1 again.
[16:47] *** effrenatus[AFK] is now known as effrenatus
[16:47] <effrenatus> but I stopped in here instead :)
[16:47] <Zouron> eff> ohh?
[16:47] <Zouron> hehe
[16:47] <Zouron> good thing :-)
[16:47] <effrenatus> When we did the print version (on shelves in
June, I think) we cleaned up some material. I'll be putting a
        revision together.
[16:48] <effrenatus> Free download if you bought MM1 from RPGNow
[16:48] * Zouron nods
[16:49] <Zouron> eff> so I shouldn't support you guys extra by
buying it as well ocne more just cause ? ;-)
[16:49] <effrenatus> If you want :)
[16:50] * Zouron did that with swords and staves
[16:50] <effrenatus> I have to figure out how I'm gonna do this.
[16:51] <effrenatus> What's up wit you, ARt?
[16:53] <BrooklynKnight> nada
[16:53] <BrooklynKnight> came up with a prc idea ill write later
        tonight
[16:59] <effrenatus> I've got a writing project I need to finish
        by Monday, too.
[17:09] *** RichRedman has joined #TGM
[17:09] <RichRedman> Greetings!
[17:09] <Zouron> hey rich!
[17:09] <RichRedman> hey Z!
[17:10] <Zouron> what's up?
[17:10] <RichRedman> so what's new in the clean world?
[17:10] * RichRedman likes paraphrasing Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor
[17:11] <effrenatus> Hey, Rich
[17:11] <Zouron> not much 3 weeks till oral exam, put in my exam
project 2 weeks ago, spending some time practicing my drawing,
doing garden work, and learning how to draw
[17:12] * Zouron loves mel brooks :-)
[17:12] <RichRedman> I think Mel is best when he works with others,
like Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. They counteract his excesses.
[17:13] * Zouron nods
[17:13] <Zouron> well I ahven't seen that much of his work admittedly
[17:14] <Zouron> but I simply love it
[17:14] <RichRedman> I think Spaceballs would have been better if
Gene or Richard worked on the script, and pretty much everything
Mel has done since isn't very good.
[17:15] <Zouron> well men in tights is my favorite closely followed
        by spaceballs :-)
[17:16] <RichRedman> Okay, you got me, Men in Tights was pretty darn
good. I'm probably an old man for liking History of the World,
Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein best
[17:17] <Zouron> thanks and I haven't seen the three other you
mentioned simply because they haven't been availabl
[17:17] <RichRedman> Sure
[17:17] <RichRedman> Hey, if I'm a bit slow, it's because I'm working
on an e-mail. I'll talk about it when I'm done.
[17:19] <Zouron> sure no problem at all I am chatting on 3 channels
soo ;-) but take your time :-)
[17:20] <effrenatus> I'm also working still. I'll focus more in a bit.
[17:21] <Zouron> np eff since it is mostly me here
[17:22] <RichRedman> I'm still checking in - just a bit distracted
[17:23] <Zouron> hehehe ain't we all
[17:23] * Zouron is finding victims to show his "so-called" art to
[17:24] *** GaryA has joined #TGM
[17:24] <Zouron> hey gary
[17:24] <GaryA> Hiya, guys.
[17:24] <effrenatus> Hello
[17:24] <RichRedman> Wow! Hi Gary!
[17:24] <GaryA> How ya doin' Marc? Heya, Rich.
[17:24] <GaryA> Got outta work without pulling an eleven hour day
        today. Amazing.
[17:24] *** MatSmith has joined #TGM
[17:25] <effrenatus> Cheeze it! IT'S SMITH!
Session Close: Tue May 25 17:25:12 2004

[17:25] *** Now talking in #TGM
[17:25] <Zouron> wb eff
[17:25] <Zouron> hey mat
[17:25] *** effrenatus sets mode: +o RichRedman
[17:25] <MatSmith> Crap. I gotta figure out how to change my screenname.
[17:25] *** effrenatus sets mode: +o MatSmith
[17:25] <MatSmith> Hey, Zouron.
[17:26] <GaryA> Howdy, Mat.
[17:26] <GaryA> Where's Wiker? He playing hookie again?
[17:26] <Zouron> mat> /nick MyNewName
[17:26] <MatSmith> Hi, Gary.
[17:27] *** effrenatus is now known as MyNewName
[17:27] <MatSmith> Thanks, Zouron. Though, now that Mr. Schmalz knows
I'm here, he'll be watching for that kind of tricksiness.
[17:27] <Zouron> LOL eff
[17:27] *** MyNewName is now known as effrenatus[TGM_Marc]
[17:27] *** TGM_Stan has joined #TGM
[17:28] <Zouron> hey stan!
[17:28] <TGM_Stan> Howdy, all
[17:28] <GaryA> Howdy, Stan!
[17:28] <MatSmith> Stan!(!)
[17:28] <TGM_Stan> Mat! How was your lunch?
[17:28] * Zouron throws himself in the dirt, before stan!
[17:28] <RichRedman> Okay, now I can talk about the e-mail I was
working on, if anyone's interested (and don't say you are out of
pity, because it actually doesn't matter).
[17:28] <MatSmith> Stunning. Asolutely stunning.
[17:29] <TGM_Stan> Get up, z ... please
[17:29] <MatSmith> I had the #6.
[17:29] * Zouron gets up
[17:29] <GaryA> Sure, Rich. Knock yourself out.
[17:29] <Zouron> rich> well I will know if I am intersted when I
        know what it is about
[17:29] <TGM_Stan> Wow ... #6? On a Tuesday? You daredevil!
[17:29] <MatSmith> That's just the kinda guy I am, Stan!
[17:29] <BrooklynKnight> Hello Mat
[17:30] <RichRedman> On Sunday, I got e-mail from a kid who's a big
gamer, and found my web page. He did some exploring on my site,
and found some stories about his dad.
[17:30] *** effrenatus[TGM_Marc] sets mode: +o TGM_Stan
[17:30] <BrooklynKnight> lol
[17:30] <BrooklynKnight> about his dad
[17:30] <MatSmith> Hey, BrooklynKNight.
[17:30] <BrooklynKnight> wow
[17:30] <RichRedman> Turns out his dad was commander of Delta
        Company when I got there.
[17:30] <BrooklynKnight> what do you do at Wizards Mat?
[17:30] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> We're gettin' old, Rich.
[17:30] <RichRedman> So last night the phone rings, and it's him -
        my old commander, Mike Truczinskas
[17:30] <RichRedman> We talked for almost an hour. Man, it really
        brought back memories.
[17:31] <GaryA> Small freakin' world, Rich.
[17:31] <RichRedman> So the e-mail I worked on tonight was
collecting all the contact information I had for people he and
I served with, and mailing it to him.
[17:31] <TGM_Stan> You can say that again, Bary
[17:31] <TGM_Stan> errrr. .. Gary
[17:31] <RichRedman> I also invited his son to join us one of these
        evenings.
[17:31] <MatSmith> Brooklyn: I'm the marketing/advertsing copywriter
for RPGs, minis, novels, some TCGs, and whatever else they want
to push on poor, unsuspecting gamers.
[17:31] <GaryA> :g:
[17:32] <BrooklynKnight> ah
[17:32] <RichRedman> BTW - thanks for joining us, Mat.
[17:32] <MatSmith> I write some junk for the WotC website too.
[17:32] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Of course, Mat's best stuff never
        gets out the door :)
[17:32] <BrooklynKnight> wait, was that you who sent me the reply
about the Warforged Mini, and how the promo ones dont get cards?
[17:32] <MatSmith> No problem, Rich.
[17:32] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> That's because Mat is a sarcastic
        SOB. :)
[17:32] * BrooklynKnight shakes his fist at the monitor.
[17:32] <TGM_Stan> AND Mat writes for Dragon magazine from time to
        time
[17:33] <Zouron> rich> nice :-)
[17:33] <TGM_Stan> Art, that would probably be someone in Customer
        Service
[17:33] <BrooklynKnight> Stan: it was, but i think his name was
        Mat lol
[17:33] <MatSmith> I've only posted one whole message to the WotC
borads, and it was about Eberron preview articles.
[17:33] <RichRedman> So not to distract anyone from talking about
Modern Magic 2 (which is out now), Mike was one of my good
memories about the Army and it just makes me happy to be in
touch with the crazy New Englander again.
[17:33] <MatSmith> Though, whoever sent you that reply was correct.
[17:34] <BrooklynKnight> heh, Rob told me promo figures would get
cards at Winter Fantasy -_- guess someone changed their mind
        about that.
[17:34] <GaryA> Rich: I enjoy re-connecting with old friends, too.
[17:34] <Zouron> rich> it is? darn I have to wait till the first
        to get it.
[17:34] <GaryA> I find it helps to ground me out, gives me some
perspective on where I am today.
[17:35] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I hear "Crazy New Englander" and I
see a guy in a Maine lobster boat.
[17:35] <TGM_Stan> Z: Don't worry ... it will still be there
[17:35] <Zouron> stan!> LOL I know
[17:35] <RichRedman> Lots of good stuff has been happening in my
life this past week, so I'll probably rattle on about them when
        talk about MoM2 slows down.
[17:35] <MatSmith> I know that some promo minis did get cards (the
Daring Rogue, Cultist of the Dragon, and Orc Raider,
specifically). But, not the Warforged Fighter (AFAIK)
[17:35] <TGM_Stan> I hear "Crazy New Englander" and I think of the
old guy from the Pepridge Farm commercials
[17:35] <BrooklynKnight> yea, the Orc Raider got em
[17:35] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I understand that he remembers.
[17:35] <RichRedman> Oddly enough, Mike talks just like that guy
[17:35] * BrooklynKnight somehow snagged 10 of those at Winter Fantasy
[17:36] <TGM_Stan> "Somehow", Art?
[17:36] <TGM_Stan> *lol*
[17:36] * BrooklynKnight whistles innocently
[17:36] <BrooklynKnight> Well, its not my fault i got hit in the
head with one of those packs on the last day.
[17:36] <RichRedman> Oh - hey - I just noticed: It's after 5:30,
so The Game Mechanics' weekly chat has officially begun.
[17:37] <TGM_Stan> Tah dah!
[17:37] <GaryA> Let's get down with some bidness.
[17:37] <RichRedman> Tonight we're going to focus on Modern Magic
2, and we'll probably do the same next week when more people
have had a chance to buy it.
[17:37] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> We should check: Has ANYONE seen
        the inside yet? :)
[17:38] <Zouron> rich> might be a limited crowd, not sure how
it affects this chat, but on wizrds.com skip willaims is holding
        the monthly sage chat
[17:38] * effrenatus[TGM_Marc] listens to crickets.
[17:38] <MatSmith> I have. I downloaded a copy this morning.
[17:38] * BrooklynKnight cant afford too see the inside
[17:38] <Zouron> eff> already told you I hadn't :-p
[17:38] <RichRedman> Okaaaaaayyy....
[17:38] <GaryA> Um.
[17:38] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Well, talk about other stuff, then
[17:38] <GaryA> I haven't seen it yet, either.
[17:39] <MatSmith> I really like Chapters 1 and 4.
[17:39] <BrooklynKnight> Right, like that Ennies Afterparty i told
        you guys about last week.
[17:39] <BrooklynKnight> I have some updated info :-D
[17:39] <TGM_Stan> Looks like maybe we ought to delay the topic for
        a week or so
[17:39] <RichRedman> Okay, good thing I made myself a list of chat
        topics then.
[17:39] <RichRedman> I'
[17:39] <Zouron> stan! you always have the latest product talks the
week ebfore I can get it.. don't you realise people get paid the
first and not a week before? hehe'
[17:40] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> It's all stan!'s fault.
[17:40] <RichRedman> I'll start with this: I'm writing a series of
modern d20 adventures for the Wizards' website. Just turned in
        the first one today.
[17:40] <TGM_Stan> I just checked ... Modern Magic 2 is already
#23 for the month over at RPGNow ... not bad for about 30 hours
[17:40] <Zouron> rich> nice!
[17:40] <MatSmith> Wow. Cool.
[17:41] <Zouron> stan!> I think it would sell better initially
if it was posted the 1st or 2nd in a month, where people are out
        on shopping sprees anyway
[17:41] <TGM_Stan> Right on, Rich!
[17:41] <BrooklynKnight> "woot woot"
[17:41] <GaryA> Nah, post it on payday.
[17:41] <TGM_Stan> Z: Yeah, but it's more CHALLENGING this way!
[17:41] <Zouron> stan!> LOL
[17:41] <RichRedman> All the adventures start with a similar hook:
A garbled transmission over the car speakers in a language only
one of the heroes can understand
[17:41] <BrooklynKnight> "You know you're a gamer when....you keep
finding your books in the bathroom"
[17:41] * Zouron ha more arguements for posting it around payday but let
that be a discussion for another week
[17:42] <TGM_Stan> I'm finishing up the last of my modern
adventures for the WotC web site now
[17:42] <Zouron> rich> LOL shouldn't be too hard for my group as
I suspect we are getting a drow
[17:42] *** RodneyThompson has joined #TGM
[17:42] <TGM_Stan> Hey, Rodney
[17:42] <RodneyThompson> Hello folks.
[17:42] <Zouron> stan!> nice to bad there wouldn't be more
[17:42] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I'm working on a small revision of
        MMagic1 and a write-up of a legendary weapon.
[17:42] <Zouron> hey rodnet
[17:42] <Zouron> rodney even
[17:42] <GaryA> Hiya, Rodney.
[17:42] <RichRedman> The transmission instructs the heroes to do
something seemingly bizarre - for example, get a hot new toy
from a toy store in the next hour.
[17:43] <MatSmith> Rich> Is it actually in a "Languages Known"
language, or is the message just strangely unintelligible to
        all but one hero?
[17:43] <RichRedman> It depends on your campaign model.
[17:43] <MatSmith> Neat
[17:43] <TGM_Stan> Z: There may be more ... I'm just not contracted
to do anymore for a while. It's time to give someone else a chance.
[17:43] <Zouron> Rich> and let me guess, on the individual dm's
        preference
[17:43] <RichRedman> If you're playing Urban Arcana, it's a Shadow
language. If you're playing Shadow Chasers, it's a dead language.
If you're playing Agents of PSI, it's a psychic transmission.
[17:44] <TGM_Stan> I wrote 11 of the first 20 online adventures
[17:44] <Zouron> stan!> well maybe I get to see some kobolds
        then ;-)
[17:44] <RichRedman> Oh, and hi Rodney!
[17:45] <RodneyThompson> Heya Rich. How are things?
[17:45] <MatSmith> Hey, Rodney.
[17:45] <TGM_Stan> You're so subtle, Z ... ;^)
[17:45] <RichRedman> Lots of good stuff happening this week.
[17:45] <Zouron> stan!> nah I was never known to be subtle,
        just persistant
[17:45] <RodneyThompson> MM2 came out, I see.
[17:46] <RodneyThompson> Hey Mat.
[17:46] <RichRedman> Too recently for many of these good folks to
        have copies of it yet
[17:46] <TGM_Stan> Yeah, Rodney ... we're pretty excited about it
[17:46] <Zouron> yeah
[17:46] <Zouron> I want it now *sniff*
[17:46] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Yep! MM2 is out. And while most of
the gaming world has purchased their copies by now, nobody here
        has seen it :)
[17:46] <GaryA> Okay, build me a cross and I'll let you nail me to it.
[17:47] <TGM_Stan> That sounds like a good Gen Con booth event, Gary
[17:47] <GaryA> I'm here for you, Stan.
[17:47] <RichRedman> "It's not a con until you have teenage girles
        in bondage gear."
[17:48] <BrooklynKnight> Teenage girls in bondage?! WHERE?!
[17:48] <MatSmith> Sign me up to work the booth.
[17:48] * Zouron eyes rich, "I want pictures!"
[17:48] <GaryA> I was here first, Mat.
[17:48] <RodneyThompson> Ugh, I've seen some of the girls at GenCon
[17:48] <BrooklynKnight> Some are pretty, some arent.
[17:48] <GaryA> That's nothing. I've seen some of the men at GenCon.
[17:48] <RichRedman> Nobody's getting nailed to anything. That never
        works out well.
[17:48] <TGM_Stan> And I've seen some of the "girls" at Gen Con ...
        *shiver*
[17:48] <BrooklynKnight> The E3 boothbabes are far more attractive
        to be honest.
[17:48] <MatSmith> Gary, I believe you've got dibs on Stan!
[17:48] <Zouron> gary> and you have recovered?
[17:49] <GaryA> Zouron - My sense of smell is still somewhat
        destroyed.
[17:49] <GaryA> Which, when you think about it, is a mercy.
[17:49] <RodneyThompson> Somehow I doubt booth babes would work
        at GenCon
[17:49] <RichRedman> Are any of you guys runners?
[17:49] <MatSmith> *heh*
[17:49] <RodneyThompson> Hey, are any of the Mechanics going to
        Origins?
[17:49] <Zouron> gary> sleeping with old very well used socks
a few weeks before helps prepare it for the shock
[17:49] *** Browwiw has joined #TGM
[17:49] <GaryA> Only when their husbands come home early, Rich.
[17:49] <RichRedman> doh
[17:49] <Zouron> rich> runners?
[17:50] <BrooklynKnight> Rod: there are many boothbabes at Gencon.
[17:50] <BrooklynKnight> Have you seen the Benchwarmer booth?
[17:50] <BrooklynKnight> :-D
[17:50] <Browwiw> alright, finally got Mirc set up correctly on
        this comp
[17:50] <RichRedman> I want to finish the Seattle Marathon this
year, after I turn 40, so I've been doing a lot of working out
        and running some local events.
[17:50] <TGM_Stan> Rodney> I don't think any of us are planning
        to be at Origins
[17:50] <Zouron> hey brow
[17:50] <GaryA> I've got pictures of the Benchwarmers at SoCal.
[17:50] <GaryA> On my site, even.
[17:50] <Browwiw> what glorious details have I missed?
[17:50] * effrenatus[TGM_Marc] isn't going to Origins
[17:50] <RichRedman> This past weekend I ran a 5-mile trail run on
        Cougar Mountain.
[17:50] <TGM_Stan> Hi, Browwiw
[17:50] <Zouron> rich> running is a feat right, not sure who
ever takes it though ;-) J/K
[17:50] <RodneyThompson> Ah, well. Eric Cagle has talked me into
        making the drive up...
[17:51] <GaryA> Howdy, Browwiw.
[17:51] <MatSmith> CagleŠ Gee whiz, Rodney, you should know better.
[17:51] <TGM_Stan> I really miss going to Origins. Honestly, I ENJOY
it more than Gen Con. But I can't afford to go to both ... and Gen
Con is still the more important show
[17:51] <RodneyThompson> Hey, he mentioned something about a
steakhouse in Columbus and I was sold.
[17:52] * Zouron still can't afford to go to gc again *pouts*
[17:52] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I enjoy the Japanese steakhouse
        across the street.
[17:52] <TGM_Stan> There's some REALLY good food in Columbus,
including a good German restaurant if you're willing to take a cab
[17:52] <RichRedman> That's a good place. I like the barbecue
        place, too
[17:52] <BrooklynKnight> Cagle rocks
[17:52] <BrooklynKnight> I really have a lot of respect for Eric,
        he's the man
[17:52] <TGM_Stan> That's okay, Z ... we'll think about you while
        we're there
[17:52] <BrooklynKnight> and always willing to have conversations
with me at all the cons i run into him at.
[17:52] * Zouron wants to embarresh stan! by kneeling before him and
declaring his alligiance to him ;-) again
[17:52] <RodneyThompson> Well, I'm looking forward to the Origins
Awards ceremony now that we actually have a chance....
[17:53] <TGM_Stan> There's also a really COOL book store kinda near
        the German restaurant
[17:53] <Browwiw> heh, I wish I had the time to travel to cons
[17:53] <TGM_Stan> If that makes you happy, Z, I'll happily get
        embarrassed for you
[17:53] <BrooklynKnight> Well, thats another name on the list. w00t.
[17:53] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Maybe we'll have a product on the
ballot next year and I can justify a trip.
[17:53] <Zouron> stan!> hehe it was rally funny at the one GC I
        did go to
[17:54] <Browwiw> my one goal in life is to become enough of a minor
celebrity to be a panelist at a gaming or sci-fi con
[17:54] <RichRedman> It's not that hard. I managed it years ago.
[17:54] * Zouron has a few goals.. do one rpg product pdf, one comic and
        be happy.
[17:54] <Browwiw> yeah, I like to set my goals low.
[17:54] <BrooklynKnight> I've worked at an exhibitor booth and hung
        out with many devs :-p
[17:54] <Browwiw> That way, I'm easy to please
[17:54] <TGM_Stan> Here's an EASY way, Browwiw: Schedule a panel for
yourself ... then invite people you admire to sit on it
[17:54] <BrooklynKnight> its not that hard BrooklynKnight
[17:54] <BrooklynKnight> gah
[17:55] <BrooklynKnight> Browow
[17:55] <GaryA> Stan> I'll have to try that.
[17:55] <RodneyThompson> Chris Perkins was kind enough to invite me
onto the Star Wars RPG panel and it was a blast.
[17:55] <TGM_Stan> ARe you talking to yourself again, Art?
[17:55] <RichRedman> Geeze, Rodney, who else would he invite? It's
        gotta be you and JD.
[17:55] <BrooklynKnight> Yes, yes i am.
[17:55] <BrooklynKnight> .season finale of 24! w00t
[17:55] <TGM_Stan> Gary, that's really how Sandy Antunes (RPG.net)
        got into the industry
[17:56] <RodneyThompson> Still, he didn't have to do that.
[17:56] <Browwiw> i'm kind of agitated right now because my main
computer blew up the weekend before finals. Not only did it screw
up my finals, but I lost a lot writing
[17:56] <TGM_Stan> Chris definitely likes to show appreciation to
people who do good work for him
[17:56] <TGM_Stan> Credit where it's due, and all that
[17:56] <Browwiw> what hurts was that I had just bought a stack of
CDs the night before to start backing things up
[17:56] *** Garen has joined #TGM
[17:56] <MatSmith> That and Mr. Perkins is terminally kind.
[17:56] <RichRedman> Chris is a real professional, and quite a
        gentleman.
[17:57] <TGM_Stan> Hi, Garen
[17:57] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Morning, Garen.
[17:57] <RichRedman> Hi Garen
[17:57] <Zouron> hey garen
[17:57] <BrooklynKnight> I dont know C.Perkins that well actually.
[17:57] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Finally awake, I see :)
[17:57] <Browwiw> fortunately, I had already backed up my d20
        modern and other gaming files
[17:57] <RichRedman> I hope to be working for Chris again soon,
which is something else we could talk about.
[17:57] <Garen> Awake, nothin'. I'm trying to figure out how I'm
supposed to fit 50 people in my house on Sunday.
[17:57] <RichRedman> After I let my dogs in...
[17:57] <RichRedman> brb
[17:57] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Wood chipper
[17:57] <Browwiw> still though, two years of writing...my
        screenplays...
[17:57] <BrooklynKnight> ok "the guys" remember that dinner i was
talking about? I've made more headway on it and have started a
list of people who have confirmed attendance.
[17:57] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Makes things very compact.
[17:57] <RodneyThompson> I've got to round up 3 more copies of the
Hero's Guide so I can submit it for the ENnies.
[17:58] <Garen> An efficient use of space, indeed.
[17:58] <GaryA> AFK for a little bit. Scraping dinner together.
[17:58] <BrooklynKnight> Tommorw i'll get the final word from the
        restaraunt.
[17:58] <TGM_Stan> Olive oil
[17:58] <BrooklynKnight> Can i add ya yet :-D
[17:58] <TGM_Stan> Rodney, have you talked to the Gameboard folks?
[17:58] <Garen> Stan!: Eww.
[17:58] <BrooklynKnight> so far 10 people are confirmed
[17:59] <MatSmith> Eff and Stan may be jumping the gun--do you need
all 50 people inside the house *at one time*?
[17:59] <RodneyThompson> No, why? Gameboard is based here in
        Knoxville...
[17:59] <Garen> Essentially, yes.
[17:59] <Zouron> since my screen reading is pretty much discolving
into reading every 10th line and not talking at all I guess I
better turn in so goodnight folks, friends and idol :-)
[18:00] <BrooklynKnight> night Z
[18:00] <TGM_Stan> Art, I doubt you'll get any sort of confirmation
from us ... too many different people we're trying to get together
        with during GC
[18:00] <MatSmith> See ya, Zouron.
[18:00] <TGM_Stan> Rodney, yeah ... I thought you knew them a little
[18:00] *** Zouron has quit IRC
[18:00] <BrooklynKnight> Stan: well thats one reason for the dinner.
[18:00] <TGM_Stan> Bye, Z
[18:01] <BrooklynKnight> i got Chris Pramas on the list (unless
something else comes up), Rodney here, Sean said ok (for after
        his larp)
[18:01] <RodneyThompson> I know some of the store clerks, but none of
        the distribution folks.
[18:01] <BrooklynKnight> 2 of the Ennies Judges
[18:01] <TGM_Stan> Art: Then you're really best to plan it and send
occasional reminders. The more you nudge people with "can you
confirm yet?" "How about now?" the less likely you are to get them
[18:01] <BrooklynKnight> Monte and Sue said they dont know tho -_-
[18:02] <BrooklynKnight> Well, last week ya said to let ya know when
i got others confirmed. (though i think it was Rich who said it)
[18:02] <BrooklynKnight> so i'm doin that ^_^
[18:02] <TGM_Stan> Cool ... it's good to know
[18:02] <BrooklynKnight> But uh, i'll just remind ya guys in august
        then.
[18:02] <RichRedman> back
[18:02] <Garen> front
[18:02] <BrooklynKnight> try to keep ennies night free :-D
[18:03] <BrooklynKnight> in any case, AFK watching 24
[18:03] <TGM_Stan> Good plan, Art
[18:03] <MatSmith> And that's why Rich is afraid of Cheese
[18:03] <TGM_Stan> ;^)
[18:03] <RichRedman> Am not! Am not!
[18:03] <TGM_Stan> *rofl*
[18:03] <TGM_Stan> Well, it's not so much "fear" as it is paralyzing
        caution
[18:03] <RichRedman> Is not! Is not!
[18:04] <GaryA> I'm here again, too, dinner in hand.
[18:04] <TGM_Stan> How do you type?
[18:05] <GaryA> Me?
[18:05] <RichRedman> So part way through the day I realized that
today is my 10th anniversary at WotC
[18:05] <GaryA> One-handed, of course.
[18:05] <RodneyThompson> Congratulations?
[18:05] <TGM_Stan> Hey, congratulations, Rich!
[18:05] <RichRedman> Thanks guys
[18:05] <GaryA> Congrats, Rich.
[18:06] <MatSmith> Wow, Rich.
[18:06] <Garen> Today is my 0th anniversary. :P
[18:06] <RichRedman> It would have been a nice coincidence if they
actually posted the job opening for my job so I could actually
apply for the job I'm already doing, but it hasn't happened yet.
[18:06] <TGM_Stan> Hey, this just in: "Max" is the most popular
name for cats in Seattle. (Must be a slow news day.)
[18:06] <RichRedman> So instead, tomorrow I'm going to interview
for a designer position in RPG R&D.
[18:07] <Garen> Actually.
[18:07] <RodneyThompson> My cat's name is Fat Cat.
[18:07] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Roommate came home, so I've missed
        some chat....
[18:07] <GaryA> My cat's name is "Hastur."
[18:07] <MatSmith> No XBox down in R&D, Rich.
[18:07] <TGM_Stan> "Fat Cat" was the name of a bookstore that I
shopped at (and Ed Stark worked at) back in upstate NY
[18:07] <RodneyThompson> Rich, good luck to you man.
[18:07] <RichRedman> Got an Xbox at home, and friends at Atari.
[18:07] <MatSmith> In Binghamton
[18:07] <TGM_Stan> Yup
[18:07] <RodneyThompson> Wow, wonky. Our livees seem intertwined Stan!
[18:08] <Browwiw> heh. My best friend's cat is named Thor. He's
steel grey and weighs nearly 25lbs...shoulda named him Mouljnor
[18:08] <MatSmith> Matt Sernett worked at a comic shop in Syracuse
        I used to go to.
[18:08] <TGM_Stan> Twilight?
[18:09] <Browwiw> one of these days I'll say something that actually
        contributes to the conversation...
[18:09] <TGM_Stan> *lol*
[18:09] <MatSmith> Comic shops seem to be a fast-track to
        employment in the RPG industry.
[18:09] <RichRedman> Here's a writing question: You've got an
adventure plot. In it, a company has figured out a way to combine
zombies and FX items to get low-cost workers. How do you get
        heroes to investigate?
[18:09] <GaryA> I worked in a game store for a while. Didn't do me
        any good.
[18:09] <TGM_Stan> Browwiw: I was just thinking that sooner or
later we'll say something that might be INTERESTING to anyone
        attending the chat
[18:09] <Garen> Comic shops, and bugging designers.
[18:10] <Garen> ;)
[18:10] <GaryA> Have one of their sickly grandparents disappear.
[18:10] <Browwiw> hmmm...well, they can investigae the grave robbery
[18:10] <Browwiw> or simply be hired by an angry union boss
[18:10] <MatSmith> I think so, Stan!
[18:10] <TGM_Stan> Gary: You've done some editing, haven't you?
[18:11] <GaryA> Of my own stuff. I think you have me confused with
        GM Sarli.
[18:11] <RodneyThompson> Rich, try this:
[18:11] <TGM_Stan> Oh ... well ... shoot ... get out there and edit,
        man!
[18:11] <TGM_Stan> *lol*
[18:11] <GaryA> You have work for me?
[18:12] <RodneyThompson> Once the company has the zombie workers,
they lay off their old labor force. Angry at losing their jobs,
they organize a riot that goes horribly wrong when the company
turns their zombie workers loose on their former employees.
[18:12] <RodneyThompson> When the players get wind of the massacre,
        they investigate.
[18:12] <GaryA> Maybe one of the PCs was laid off because of the
        new zombie workers.
[18:12] <Browwiw> wow, that's just mean, Rodney
[18:13] <GaryA> Of course, if the zombies take over the IT
        department, things might actually improve.
[18:13] <TGM_Stan> I'm not sure how I feel about a "riot" ... but
a strike might be a good idea
[18:13] <RodneyThompson> True.
[18:13] <MatSmith> There's less shooting in a strike.
[18:13] <Browwiw> those bodies have to come from somewhere...grave
robbery, underhanded dealings with medical research suppliers, or
        even missing homeless people
[18:13] <RodneyThompson> I dunno, I just pulled that out of my keister.
[18:13] <MatSmith> Less shooting = bad
[18:13] <RichRedman> Hmmm...something like that just might work. I
was thinking that a car accident with a taxi revealing that the
driver had actually died six years before, but there's no real
sense of urgency or importance for the heroes.
[18:14] <TGM_Stan> A riot is something the heroes have to deal with.
A strike gives them something to investigate.
[18:14] <MatSmith> *Bang, Bang*
[18:14] <Browwiw> I like the missing homeless people myself...I
like to start things with a mundane catalyst, and then spiral
down into FX and supernatural wackiness
[18:14] <RodneyThompson> Either way could work.
[18:14] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> That's nice.
[18:14] <RichRedman> I mean, who cares what happens to the dead?
If you think about it, we should care, but it doesn't grab
        you emotionally.
[18:14] <Garen> Well, there's less shooting in a 2004 strike. An
1884 strike is another matter entirely.
[18:14] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Combine the dead taxi driver with
        a missing homeless person.
[18:15] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Add urgency to the corpse in the cab
[18:15] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> "MOM!"
[18:15] <Browwiw> yeah, in the 1800's they'd just set the dogs on you
[18:15] <TGM_Stan> Or, add the strike to the re-dead taxi driver
[18:15] <Browwiw> heh...I've always wanted to use the Triangle
Shirt Company incident in a game, somehow
[18:16] <RichRedman> Sure, but you need a tearful relative to
give the heroes that "in" but that seems like railroading
[18:16] <RodneyThompson> Or, how about a group of striking,
homeless, zombie cab drivers...who travel through time for
        some reason.
[18:16] <Browwiw> quit reading my mind, Rodney
[18:16] <TGM_Stan> No, Rodney ... that's Time Bandits II
[18:16] * RodneyThompson shudders/
[18:16] <GaryA> Wouldn't those be zombie midgits?
[18:16] <Browwiw> that's Phantasom
[18:16] <Browwiw> which I spelled wrong
[18:17] <MatSmith> To fight against Rich's favorite baddies: Undead
        Nazis from Outer Space
[18:17] <RichRedman> Mat's exaggerating. Again.
[18:17] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> It doesn't have to be a relative. It
could be... um... former co-worker. A dead local politician.
[18:17] <Browwiw> heh...I have an idea for Sand Slave Nazis from Mars
[18:17] <TGM_Stan> He does that, like, a MILLION times a day!
[18:17] <MatSmith> True. They're not always the bad guys.
[18:18] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> A nazi war criminal corpse driving
        taxis. Beauty!
[18:18] <RichRedman> Yeah, but if it's a dead politician, that's
like a dead lawyer. The heroes will just say "good riddance."
[18:18] <GaryA> Okay, it's Mother Theresa.
[18:18] <RichRedman> Now Marc might be on to something...
[18:18] <GaryA> Go for the throat.
[18:18] <RodneyThompson> What if the zombies are children? That's
        pretty rough....
[18:18] <TGM_Stan> And the zombies are threatening little kittens
        with big sad eyes
[18:19] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Well, kids driving taxis are
probably REALLY obvious without being dead.
[18:19] <RichRedman> Yeah, but it's harder to accept a midget cab
driver - which is how people would see zombie children
[18:19] <Browwiw> not really, they're shorter...you get more impact
on a downward shovel swing, Rodney
[18:19] <MatSmith> Is it the zombies with the das eyes or the kittens?
[18:19] <GaryA> Maybe they look like Oompa Loompas.
[18:19] <RodneyThompson> Man, this discussion is wrong on many levels.
[18:20] <Browwiw> would a sharpened shovel be an improvised weapon?
[18:20] <Browwiw> or archaic...hmmm
[18:20] <RichRedman> Well, yeah, but I'm really looking for a clever
way to make heroes WANT to stop the company that's using zombies.
[18:20] <MatSmith> =)
[18:20] <GaryA> Make that company Microsoft.
[18:20] <RichRedman> Uhm...no.
[18:20] <Browwiw> the Undead Inside
[18:21] <GaryA> Gods alive. I think I need a beer.
[18:21] <Browwiw> well, the company could be a food packaging plant.
        That would just be unsanitary
[18:22] <TGM_Stan> Gary, if you THINK you need a beer then you
        really don't NEED it yet
[18:22] <GaryA> Or they could manufacture gasoline. Not only is their
labor cheap (and dead), but they're still raising gas prices.
[18:22] <RichRedman> HA!
[18:22] <Garen> Hey, Mat, I wanted to say "good job" on the
Dragonmarks article in Dragon 320. Interesting stuff.
[18:22] <Browwiw> you find a little bit of Zombie #3452 in your
        microwave breakfast burrito one morning...
[18:22] <GaryA> I'm having flashbacks to last week's "Give Me
        The Brain" game.
[18:22] <TGM_Stan> Ewwww ... undead burritos
[18:23] <RodneyThompson> Oh yeah, way to go on that one Mat.
[18:23] <Browwiw> if it's a big time company using undead workers,
they need a politically correct name for their undead workers
[18:23] <MatSmith> Gey, Garen, Thanks a lot--I really enjoyed
getting to write those articles. (I really liked seeing finished
        art in that last one.)
[18:23] <RodneyThompson> I noticed your name on it but forgot to
        e-mail you.
[18:23] <Browwiw> hmmm...reanimated technicians....
[18:23] <MatSmith> Thanks, to you too, Rodney.
[18:24] <Browwiw> I by the Dragon Magazine just by rote, nowadays.
I'll have to take a look at that article now, Mat
[18:24] <TGM_Stan> "Fully exempt staff"
[18:24] <RichRedman> Seems like the opportunities are who the
zombies were in life, how the company got ahold of them, what the
company does, or...something I haven't thought of yet.
[18:25] <MatSmith> Rich, when I was working up a d20 Seattle
campaign, I was going to have Ivars use zombies as clam and
        shrimp farmers.
[18:25] <TGM_Stan> *rofl*
[18:25] <TGM_Stan> Some of their stuff TASTES like it
[18:25] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Well, Rich, how about a local hero?
        a fallen cop or firefighter.
[18:25] <Browwiw> I've been planning on running an 'all hell breaks
lose' zombie campaign based on Max Brooks 'The Zombie Survival
        Guide'
[18:26] <RodneyThompson> Maybe someone whose story is well-known
[18:26] <MatSmith> Please do check it out, Browwiw. Take a look at
the 30 Years of D&D article too--that one nearly killed me.
[18:26] <RichRedman> Hey, Marc, that's not bad.
[18:26] <Browwiw> I have far reaching ambitions, but little actual
        motivation
[18:26] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Local war hero.
[18:26] <Browwiw> I sure will, Matt
[18:26] <RichRedman> Especially if I could link it back to character
        background.
[18:27] <RichRedman> bio break
[18:27] <Browwiw> I do have this whole concept of how the nasty
chicken-poo run off from the Tyson Chicken Houses could raise the
        dead.
[18:27] <GaryA> Well, guys, that's my hour. :) I'm gonna go do other
        stuff.
[18:28] <Browwiw> of course, if you don't live in Kentucky or Indiana,
you might not get the joke
[18:28] <GaryA> Know full well that I will be thinking of you.
[18:28] <TGM_Stan> "Bio break" ... as opposed to a "Chem break"?
[18:28] <TGM_Stan> Bye, Gary ... thanks for stopping by
[18:28] <GaryA> Buh bye..!
[18:28] <MatSmith> Rich, would the zombie's having a personal tie
to the heroes be too railroad-y? If it were someone the heroes
had buried sometime in their history (a former KIA party member
or fellow employee, perhaps), they'd be compelled to look into
        why their funeral didn't take.
[18:29] <RodneyThompson> Oh, maybe I missed this earlier, but what
        kept JD away tonight?
[18:29] <RichRedman> Bye, Gary!
[18:29] <MatSmith> See ya, Gary.
[18:29] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Later
[18:29] <RichRedman> Yeah, Mat, that's awesome!
[18:29] <GaryA> Good luck with the cheap zombie labor.
[18:29] *** GaryA has quit IRC
[18:29] <Browwiw> cheap zombie labor...I'd be more inclined to
        shock-collared kobolds
[18:29] <TGM_Stan> Rodney: Almost certainly his deadlines ... but
I haven't actually talked with him
[18:29] <MatSmith> "You get a good look at the cabbieŠit's YangŠ"
[18:30] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Thanks for that.
[18:30] <MatSmith> =)
[18:30] <MatSmith> Poor kobolds.
[18:30] <RichRedman> HA
[18:30] <RodneyThompson> Ah, deadlines. My ancient enemy.
[18:31] <Browwiw> hey, a little negative reinforcement goes a
        long way
[18:32] *** Bynw has joined #TGM
[18:32] <TGM_Stan> Hi, Bynw
[18:32] <RichRedman> Hey Bynw
[18:32] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Hello
[18:32] <Browwiw> howdy, Bynw
[18:32] <MatSmith> Hey, Bynw
[18:33] <Browwiw> brb
[18:33] <Bynw> hi all
[18:34] <TGM_Stan> So ... who went out and bought "Return of the
        King" today?
[18:34] <Garen> Not I!
[18:34] <Browwiw> nope
[18:34] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I don't buy DVDs any more.
[18:34] <RichRedman> I haven't even seen it yet!
[18:34] <Browwiw> i will, though
[18:34] <RodneyThompson> I am too broke to buy i.
[18:34] <RodneyThompson> it
[18:34] * Garen is an Extended Version kinda guy.
[18:34] * TGM_Stan hangs his head
[18:34] <MatSmith> Rich, The zombie could also be an old nemesis
the heroes sent to a dirt nap. (Then, they'll get really riled
up with all the baggage from previous adventures.)
[18:34] <TGM_Stan> What the?
[18:34] <Browwiw> yeah, the EV is the way to go
[18:34] <RodneyThompson> When I get somee spare cash, maybe....but
MM2 has my first spare money.
[18:35] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I did watch .9HULK.1 on TiVo last
        night.
[18:35] <MatSmith> I'm waiting for the Super Tiger Dragon Edition
[18:35] <TGM_Stan> Fair enough, Rodney ... I can't fault you for
        that
[18:35] <RodneyThompson> Though it may be 2 weeks before I can
afford the thing...don't even have $51
[18:35] <RodneyThompson> $5!
[18:35] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Oh, Rich... It could be Clint Castle :)
[18:35] <RodneyThompson> I hate this laptop.
[18:35] <MatSmith> Good Call, Rodney.
[18:35] <Browwiw> that's what Lucas is calling the release on the
        Original trilogy, Matt
[18:35] <TGM_Stan> Then, I guess none of you bought "Bubba-Hotep"
        either
[18:36] <Browwiw> i will rent that
[18:36] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I'll watch it when I can catch it
        on TV
[18:36] <RichRedman> You know (ignoring the crack about Clint),
I want to rent Bubba and check the extras before buying it.
[18:37] <Garen> I REFUSE to buy a Bruce Campbell movie in which
he plays Elvis and doesn't get to say "Hail to the King, Baby."
[18:37] <MatSmith> Rich, or one of those Eternal Serpent jerks.
        Yeah.
[18:37] <TGM_Stan> Am I the only one spending money like a drunken
sailor? I suppose it's safe to assume that none of you picked
        up Buffy Season 6, too.
[18:37] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Oh, that's also good. Someone with
        a tie to the EVIL.
[18:38] <RichRedman> La, la, la, not listening.
[18:38] <Browwiw> Stan, i'm a broke-ass college student
[18:38] <MatSmith> Yeah. Something to make the players jump to all
        kinds of bad conclusions.
[18:38] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Time to go get my government
        cheese....
[18:38] <Browwiw> worse than that, I'm an English major and getting
my teaching license...I'll never have money
[18:38] * effrenatus[TGM_Marc] isn't really eating government cheese.
[18:38] <Browwiw> gov' cheese is good stuff
[18:39] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I've got a history degree.
[18:39] <MatSmith> No Marc! You'll scare Rich!
[18:39] <TGM_Stan> Mmmmmmm ... gvmt cheeeeeeeeese!
[18:39] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> So, I'm working in gaming.
[18:39] <TGM_Stan> I've got a degree in Book Report ... so I'm
        barely working in gaming
[18:39] <RichRedman> Marc could scare me, but only if I had to ride
in a car with him after he ate that cheese.
[18:40] <MatSmith> That'd do it.
[18:40] <TGM_Stan> I can just hear Marc .... "Don't want to pull my
finger? That's okay. I'm going to drive over some speed bumps
        in a minute."
[18:40] <MatSmith> That and your unexplainable terror when
        encountering unattended cheese.
[18:40] <Browwiw> is WotC going to update the d20 Modern site,
tonight? It always bothers me that they do it around 9-10 at night
[18:41] <TGM_Stan> Why does it bother you, Browwiw?
[18:41] <Browwiw> it just does
[18:41] <RichRedman> I guess it is time for another of my columns
[18:41] <Browwiw> cause I hate waiting
[18:41] <Browwiw> I have the patience and self-control of a
        spoiled 12 yearold
[18:41] <MatSmith> I know virtually nothing about WotC web updates,
aside from when I can expect to see my next In the Works column.
[18:42] <MatSmith> "Why Cheese Gives Me the Willies" by Rich Redman
[18:43] <TGM_Stan> *lol*
[18:43] <Browwiw> hmmm...The Onion didn't update today, either.
        It's a conspiracy!
[18:43] <TGM_Stan> they're taunting you, Browwiw
[18:43] <RichRedman> What is it with Mat and cheese tonight?
[18:43] <Browwiw> I'm used to it
[18:43] <MatSmith> Homestarrunner has been laz with the updates too.
[18:43] <TGM_Stan> And the Stannex hasn't been updated in months!
[18:43] <RichRedman> Oh, come on, the big guitar was hysterical
[18:43] <TGM_Stan> Oh ... ummm ... never mind
[18:44] <Browwiw> actually, Mat, that would be a great title for an
        article on strange NPC traits
[18:44] <TGM_Stan> And the puppet jam was GREAT
[18:44] <MatSmith> Hysterical, yet tardy. Monday‹that's when Strong
        Bad answers email. MONDAY
[18:44] <TGM_Stan> Homestar sings with They Might Be Giants ... how
        can you not love that?
[18:45] <RodneyThompson> Wow.
[18:45] <RodneyThompson> Just...wow.
[18:45] <Browwiw> I know a woman that doens't have a driver's
license because she's terrified of sitting on the left side of a car
[18:45] <Browwiw> TMBG? holy crap
[18:45] <MatSmith> Which car?
[18:45] <Browwiw> any car
[18:46] <TGM_Stan> *lol* ... All she needs is to get a British car
[18:46] <MatSmith> Is she European?
[18:46] <Browwiw> nope
[18:46] <Browwiw> she's a Hoosier, if that helps
[18:46] <TGM_Stan> She works at Hooters?
[18:46] <Browwiw> and she's allergic to the color orange
[18:47] <MatSmith> Stan! has solved the problem. She just needs an
        original Mini Cooper.
[18:47] <MatSmith> Hmm. Usually it's the fruit.
[18:47] <Browwiw> no, she's allergic to orange artificial coloring
[18:47] <Browwiw> Cheetos could actually kill her
[18:48] <TGM_Stan> Man, Cheetos could kill ANY of us
[18:48] <MatSmith> Death by Cheeto-‹Michael Moore's next film.
[18:49] <TGM_Stan> Chester & Me
[18:49] <Browwiw> hey, I don't make this stuff u
[18:49] <Browwiw> up
[18:49] <MatSmith> It's Not East Being Cheesy‹and the unexplained
        cause of countless snackfood-related deaths
[18:50] <Browwiw> if she sits on the left side of a moving vehicle
she starts bawling. If she eats anything orange, it could kill here
[18:50] <TGM_Stan> Mat, that sounds like a Sherlock Holmes title
[18:50] <Browwiw> and my roommate has had sex with at least twice
[18:50] <Browwiw> so, there's three character flaws, just like the
        book recommends
[18:51] <MatSmith> I've always had a Doyle-esque flair for titles.
[18:52] <TGM_Stan> A skill that must serve you well in the verbally
        pared down world of advertising
[18:52] <RichRedman> So there was a thread on our message boards
about support for d20 Modern. Why isn't there more? Does there
        need to be more?
[18:52] <RodneyThompson> An enthusiastic yes!
[18:52] <Browwiw> yes
[18:52] <RichRedman> Okay, but why isn't there more?
[18:52] <RodneyThompson> (says the guy who writes lots of d20
        Modern stuff)
[18:52] <Browwiw> cause WotC is all about the DnD
[18:52] <Browwiw> I can understand why, though
[18:53] <RodneyThompson> From what I've seen, it's a money thing.
[18:53] <RichRedman> Well, sure, but come on - there's plenty of
        fantasy d20 support out there.
[18:53] <Browwiw> of course, and I can't blaim a corporation for
        wanting to make money
[18:53] <MatSmith> Yes. My love of paid-by-the-word writing does
tend to bite me in the ass when I'm struggling to put two *and
        only two* sentences together.
[18:53] <TGM_Stan> Yeah, the question I think Rich is getting at
is: Why aren't there more 3rd-party modern d20 System products?
[18:53] <Browwiw> blame? jesus, am i drunk?
[18:54] <MatSmith> Next to Free Stuff, d20 Modern downloads are
at the top of the Most Popular list over at RPGNow.com
[18:54] <RodneyThompson> All the little guys see the money in the
D&D market and want a bite of that.
[18:55] <Browwiw> I really don't trust the quality of a lot of
3rd party stuff out there. I trust the GameMechanics because its
        the same game designers, though
[18:55] <Browwiw> I've been burnt on 3rd party d20 fantasy stuff,
so I am a little paranoid
[18:55] <RodneyThompson> Besides, WotC and now Paizo's refusal to
support the game doesn't help consumer confidence any.
[18:55] <RichRedman> It's a shame that so few companies have the
vision to see the opportunities inherent in a less crowded market.
[18:56] <RichRedman> Whoa, whoa, whoa - Rodney, WotC hasn't refused
anything. It publishes just as much modern as it does FR and
        Star Wars.
[18:56] <RodneyThompson> I agree. And if I had the startup capital,
I'd be the first one in line to start a d20 Modern-producing
        company.
[18:56] <Browwiw> and the Star Wars is so sluggish in getting out
because of the Lucas Licensing crap
[18:56] <RichRedman> Amen, Browwiw
[18:56] <RodneyThompson> Rich: Yeah, exactly my point. SW support
        is vanishing rapidly.
[18:57] <RodneyThompson> i'm not bitching -- hey, with d20 future
coming out at GenCon i'm singing WotC's praises
[18:57] <Browwiw> you know, i'd by a monthy or bi-monthly 3rd party
d20-Modern pdf-only magazine...kinda like what Star Wars Gamer was
[18:57] <RichRedman> All three of those lines get 2-3 products per
year, and neither FR nor Modern have Star Wars' overhead issues.
        But then, I'm off-topic. Where's the third-party support?
[18:57] <RodneyThompson> But two books a year do not a product line
make, especially when you have monthly D&D releases
[18:57] <Browwiw> man, I miss Star Wars Gamer
[18:58] <MatSmith> d20 Modern was supposed to get much support from
        A-level 3rd-party publishers--product release schedules are set
        *way* in advance.
[18:58] <BrooklynKnight> wait
[18:58] <RichRedman> Yes, it was. I was on the mailing list where
        they talked about their plans.
[18:58] <BrooklynKnight> are you saying d20modern is getting less
3rd party support then it was supposed to?
[18:58] <RichRedman> Yes, I am.
[18:58] <RichRedman> And I'm not alone.
[18:59] <RodneyThompson> I think a big problem here is that print
publishers are gunshy about supporting d20 Modern.
[18:59] <BrooklynKnight> After Gencon, i'm gonna try and start a
        free online d20modern pdf magazine
[18:59] <BrooklynKnight> Monthly.
[18:59] <Browwiw> I would contribute, Brooklyn
[18:59] <BrooklynKnight> I know a great editor, a number of
writers who'd be willing to contribute...
[18:59] <BrooklynKnight> heh
[18:59] <BrooklynKnight> what i need is art and layout/design
[18:59] <RichRedman> Rodney, I agree. I think it's a shame that
more companies don't see the opportunities in the less crowded
        modern market
[18:59] <MatSmith> There were well over a dozen well-known
publishers who had lined up to release heavy-duty products within
six months of the release of the d20 Modern Roleplaying Game
[19:00] <RodneyThompson> More print publishers can capitalize on
the less crowded market by starting relationships like the TGM/GR
        print deal
[19:00] <RichRedman> True
[19:01] <RodneyThompson> The problem is that, and with no offense
to the quality of your work, unless you're personal pals with
guys like Chris Pramas forging such a deal is a herculean task.
[19:01] <BrooklynKnight> Eh
[19:01] <BrooklynKnight> I dont think so.
[19:01] <BrooklynKnight> I think its a tad easier then that.
[19:02] <RichRedman> There's always connections - like getting
Chris' pals to put in good words for you
[19:02] <RodneyThompson> Sure, sure.
[19:02] <BrooklynKnight> But you'd have to have a nearly finished
        product to shop around first.
[19:02] <RodneyThompson> GR is doing the right thing, but they
        can't do it alone.
[19:02] <RodneyThompson> You need people like Sword & Sorcery to
        take that chanc
[19:02] *** Bynw is now known as Bynw[away]
[19:02] <BrooklynKnight> Right now we got what? 2 companies doing
        d20modern print?
[19:02] <BrooklynKnight> RPGO and GR
[19:03] <RodneyThompson> Mongoose as well, but in OGL format
[19:03] <RichRedman> We have some more than that. Sidewinder:
        Recoiled, Haven, etc.
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> ehhh...
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> Green Ronin will be printing Sidewinder.
[19:03] <RodneyThompson> But those are one-shot deals.
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> I have no idea who's gonna be printing Haven
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> actually
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> Haven is not a onesot.
[19:03] <BrooklynKnight> shot.
[19:03] <RichRedman> Do you think that the many different genres
within Modern are part of the issue?
[19:03] <Browwiw> is Siderwinder: Recoiled is pretty damn nice...
just wish I had backed it up to disk before it went ka-put
[19:03] <TGM_Stan> EVERYTHING is a one-shot until it sells well
[19:04] <BrooklynKnight> Rich: possibly. Nobody knows what genre to
tackle, its hard to just choose one and comit to it.
[19:04] <RodneyThompson> Rich> It's a valid point, but not
        critical to the discussion.
[19:04] <RichRedman> k
[19:04] <MatSmith> Or, at least, a three-shot burst.
[19:04] <Browwiw> I think d20 Modern's capacity to serve
multiple-genres is actually a huge selling point
[19:04] <BrooklynKnight> Haven will be doing d20modern adventures for
        the setting too.
[19:04] <RodneyThompson> Agreed.
[19:04] <BrooklynKnight> Its a double edged sword.
[19:05] <BrooklynKnight> Frankly, i think Spycraft has taken a huge
        bite out of d20modern.
[19:05] <RichRedman> Thus the risk inherent in the opportunities.
[19:05] <RodneyThompson> See, stuff like the MPC and MAM are the
kinds of d20 Modern products that can succeed.
[19:05] <BrooklynKnight> If Stargate was made for d20modern, i have
no doubt in my mind that there would have been a LOT more
        support for it.
[19:05] <RodneyThompson> They work in any modern game and don't rely
        on setting.
[19:05] <BrooklynKnight> rather, a lot more people playnig it.
[19:06] <BrooklynKnight> wow i killed the conversation
[19:06] <Browwiw> yes, you naughty boy
[19:06] <RichRedman> I saw a good concert Saturday night
[19:06] <Browwiw> hah!
[19:07] <Browwiw> I built a fence yesterday
[19:07] <RichRedman> After my 5-mile run and a nap, that is.
[19:07] <RodneyThompson> I have a lot more thoughts on the matter,
Rich, that I'd love to talk about when I'm not on my laptop.
[19:07] <RodneyThompson> It's something that affects me deeply.
[19:07] <RichRedman> Sure - we can chat more about it next week, or
        continue it on our boards.
[19:08] <RodneyThompson> Sure.
[19:08] <RichRedman> I really did go to a concert, Saturday night. I
wasn't just making something up to fill dead white space.
[19:08] <BrooklynKnight> I saw 4 movies today.
[19:08] <RodneyThompson> which band?
[19:08] <BrooklynKnight> Van Helsing, Shrek 2, Mean Girls, Troy
[19:08] <RichRedman> I saw Carbon Leaf and Great Big Sea.
[19:09] <RodneyThompson> Carbon Leaf is good live.
[19:09] <TGM_Stan> Rich, did you see Sue Cook at the show?
[19:09] <Browwiw> Troy was pretty good, Vanhelsing...not so much
[19:09] <RodneyThompson> They play occasionally at a local
        bar/music spot here in Knoxville.
[19:10] <Browwiw> I want to see Mean Girls...Tina Fey is all that
        is desirable in a woman
[19:10] <RichRedman> It was the last night of the tour, and Great
Big Sea seemed kind of tired and hoarse but Carbon Leaf was
really good. Too bad the Moore Theatre's acoustics aren't so good.
[19:10] <RichRedman> No, Stan!, I didn't see her.
[19:10] <MatSmith> Gee, whiz. I think I shall take off and go think
        about a Legendary Sword.
[19:10] <BrooklynKnight> Tina Fey, which one was she?
[19:10] <RichRedman> Thanks for coming by Mat!
[19:10] <RichRedman> I gotta admit, Tina has something going on.
[19:10] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> See you, mat!
[19:10] <TGM_Stan> Bye, Mat! See you tomorrow!
[19:10] <BrooklynKnight> later!
[19:11] <Garen> Later, Mat
[19:11] <Browwiw> she wrote the movie, in fact. She was the female
        teacher, I believe
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> ah
[19:11] <MatSmith> See you guys.
[19:11] <RodneyThompson> i'm heading out too. Got a bunch moree to
write on the d20 future setting.
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> AH! yes!
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> yea she's pretty.
[19:11] <Browwiw> she's also a writer on SNL and does the
        weekend update
[19:11] *** MatSmith has quit IRC (Quit: Quit.)
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> I was staring at 2 of the girls though.
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> Lindsday Lohan
[19:11] <RodneyThompson> Take care everyone.
[19:11] <Browwiw> not just pretty, but smart and cuttingly funny
[19:11] <TGM_Stan> Bye, Rodney
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> and that one which was in Lost in Space
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> LATER!
[19:11] <TGM_Stan> Thanks for stopping by
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> see ya bro
[19:11] <Browwiw> by, Rodney
[19:11] <BrooklynKnight> thanks for confirming
[19:12] *** RodneyThompson has quit IRC (Quit: Rodney "Moridin" Thompson -
        Author, and SWRPGNetwork Webmaster (http://www.swrpgnetwork.com).)
[19:12] <RichRedman> So let's stop talking about underage girls.
This shouldn't be that kind of chat toom.
[19:12] <RichRedman> Er, chat room.
[19:12] <TGM_Stan> It might turn it into a "chat tomb"
[19:12] <Browwiw> Tina Fey is almost thirty
[19:12] <RichRedman> Oh, we can talk about her, that's not what I
        meant.
[19:12] <Browwiw> heh
[19:12] <Browwiw> I know
[19:12] <Browwiw> but, yeah, d20 Modern definately needs more support
[19:13] <Browwiw> sadly (and maybe happily) it'll be up to the fans
        to do it
[19:13] <BrooklynKnight> um...
[19:13] <BrooklynKnight> Lindsday is 17, and the other one is like 20
[19:13] <RichRedman> Well, maybe we'll get some brilliant new voices
        out of it.
[19:13] <Browwiw> hopefully
[19:13] <Browwiw> I wouldn't mind 'breaking in'
[19:14] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I'm happy with d20 Modern support,
        personally.
[19:14] <TGM_Stan> Art, enough about the girls
[19:14] <BrooklynKnight> aye aye
[19:14] <RichRedman> Well, please consider us an avenue for doing
        just that, Browwiw
[19:14] <BrooklynKnight> the more d20modern the better
[19:14] <Browwiw> I wouldn't mind being associated with you guys,
        Rich
[19:15] <BrooklynKnight> wait, did i miss something, TGM is
        accepting submissions? lol
[19:15] <Browwiw> I was planning on doing a small free adventure for
you guys, but since my computer crashed and the summer began,
        I've been at wits end
[19:15] <RichRedman> I'd be happy to look at writing samples, and
consider writers and editors for products that are on our schedule.
After all, if I get hired by WotC, TGM is going to need some more
        design work.
[19:15] <Browwiw> I should really e-mail JD and tell him why its
        delayed
[19:16] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> This week's freebie will be our
        third Interlude, btw.
[19:16] <Browwiw> cool
[19:16] <Browwiw> I like little stuff like that
[19:16] <BrooklynKnight> 0o0o
[19:16] * BrooklynKnight reminds Rich he has Editing credits :-
[19:16] <BrooklynKnight> D
[19:17] <Browwiw> of course, now that I've said I probably won't
right that adventure I'll get all mad at myself and write it,
        anyways
[19:17] <RichRedman> Wow, I didn't expect Stan! to stick around
this long, what with his deadlines and all.
[19:17] <BrooklynKnight> when i first met "the guys"
[19:17] <BrooklynKnight> i was trying to sell them a fantasy
        adventure i was writing.
[19:17] <RichRedman> I must've been especially scintillating tonight.
[19:17] <BrooklynKnight> heh
[19:17] <BrooklynKnight> Rich you always are
[19:17] <Browwiw> heh
[19:17] <Browwiw> I'm just lonely
[19:17] <TGM_Stan> Well, procrastination has its advantages
[19:18] <BrooklynKnight> I came up with a concept for a Prestige
        class.
[19:18] <BrooklynKnight> for blind fighters
[19:18] * BrooklynKnight hasnt seen anything like that in any book before,
and is exited that he might actually have an original idea
[19:18] <Browwiw> I still want to make myself write up an Advanced
        Class for stage magicians
[19:18] <BrooklynKnight> so..an illusionists?
[19:19] <BrooklynKnight> -s
[19:19] <RichRedman> Okay, gang, it's late and my pets need my
attention. See you next week if I don't see you tomorrow. As
always: Thanks, everybody, for taking the time out of your busy
lives to come to the chat.
[19:19] <Browwiw> though, I can'd decide if it would be more easily
done with a Fast/Charismatic mix or as a five-level prestige class
[19:19] *** RichRedman has quit IRC
[19:19] <BrooklynKnight> lat-- bleh heh
[19:20] <Browwiw> yeah, Brooklyn, kinda like Pen and Teller or even
        David Copperfield
[19:20] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Uh... Later, Rich :)
[19:20] <BrooklynKnight> Brow: Remember, Advance Classes are easier
to get into, typically by level 4. Prestige Classes cant be
        reached till level 6
[19:20] <BrooklynKnight> and tend to be more powerful
[19:20] <Browwiw> yeah, i know
[19:21] <Browwiw> that's what I was thinking: a total of about
3 or for levels in Fast and Charismatic each should be fine
for a prestige class of that sort
[19:21] <Browwiw> I just don't know if I want to make it that
        specialized
[19:22] <BrooklynKnight> well, stage magicians specialize in
misdirection, illusion, and slight of hand.
[19:22] <BrooklynKnight> those are the 3 primary areas of their
        expertise.
[19:22] <Browwiw> well,of course
[19:22] <Browwiw> I mean like level-dependant abilities
[19:22] <TGM_Stan> It sounds like you're talking more about a
Class-Combo than an Advanced- or Prestige Class
[19:22] <Browwiw> well, I was thinking what serves such a character
        concept best
[19:22] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> If you can do it as a class combo,
you should probably avoid writing a new class.
[19:23] <Browwiw> yeah, that's what I'm worrying over
[19:23] <BrooklynKnight> Fast/Charismatic is definatly the way to go
[19:23] <Browwiw> of course
[19:23] <Browwiw> maybe a little smart, later on
[19:23] <BrooklynKnight> however, i think largescale misdirection
        might need a class.
[19:24] <Browwiw> again, you see my dilema
[19:24] <TGM_Stan> I don't want to step on your creative toes, but
if I were interested in making such characters I'd do it by
building a few new Feats or variant rules for some skills
[19:24] <Browwiw> I was thinking Misdirection would increase as
        you gained level
[19:24] <BrooklynKnight> Thats also a path.
[19:24] <Browwiw> yeah
[19:24] <BrooklynKnight> Thats what I did for Sword and Board
        fighters.
[19:24] <BrooklynKnight> i created feats that utalized Sword
        and Shield teqniques.
[19:24] <BrooklynKnight> and, i thik they will be published in
        Arms and Armor next month.
[19:24] <Browwiw> I just want to do it as simply and elegantly
withing the existing rules as possible
[19:24] <BrooklynKnight> (dont know what they used yet)
[19:25] <Browwiw> I know too many people who try to reinvent the
wheel when they do homebrew stuff
[19:25] <BrooklynKnight> bah, i just add a spoke.
[19:25] <Browwiw> hey
[19:25] <Browwiw> heh, rather
[19:26] <Browwiw> shit, now I'll be up all night thinking about it
[19:26] <TGM_Stan> Well, folks, I think I'm going to follow Rich
        on out the door
[19:26] <TGM_Stan> Thanks for stopping by
[19:26] <BrooklynKnight> later stan
[19:26] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I was about to write the same.
[19:26] <BrooklynKnight> see ya next week
[19:26] <Browwiw> thanks for having us
[19:26] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> I've gotta get some TGM work done,
and then I'd like to fly around Paragon City.
[19:26] <TGM_Stan> We'll be back again next week, and hopefully
we'll have some visitors who have questions or comments on
        Modern Magic 2
[19:26] <Browwiw> yeah, I'm going to toddle off
[19:26] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> We'll focus on MM2 next week, so
        you have ... :)
[19:27] <Browwiw> cool
[19:27] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Stan stepping on my toes again.
[19:27] <Browwiw> see around, guys
[19:27] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> :)
[19:27] <effrenatus[TGM_Marc]> Later!
[19:27] <TGM_Stan> Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!
[19:27] *** TGM_Stan has left #TGM
[19:27] *** Browwiw has left #TGM
